How to plan a vacation

The average U.S. employee takes only half of his or her eligible vacation time, according to a recent Glassdoor Employment Confidence Survey. The main reason why vacations are not taken is not having enough time or being "too busy." Still, there has been much research on the health benefits of taking a break. Vacations not only “reset” the brain to handle the everyday life but reduce stress and anxiety. Planning a vacation can be easy when following these basic tips:

Plan ahead. In order to get the preferred vacation time, plan as soon as possible. Oftentimes, people do not plan because they worry about their current expenses or stress about the time needed. What they need to recognize is that planning is a no-obligation process. People should plan their vacations and outline the things that need to be done. In this way, people are able to precisely determine the expenses and create an appropriate budget. This also applies to applying for vacation leaves at the office. Managers appreciate being notified ahead of time. This also allows officemates to adjust their schedules as well. Remember that cancellations can happen last minute, but not requests.

Be flexible. Even the best plans fail. Despite planning ahead, people should still maintain a certain amount of flexibility when it comes to planning their vacations. This becomes especially true during popular holidays such as the Fourth of July or Thanksgiving. Without a doubt, there will be a lot of people applying for a day off, and leaves are normally approved on a first-come-first-served basis. There are endless scenarios that may happen. Nevertheless, managers remember employees who are willing to work with their schedules and would be more willing to approve vacations. Planning a vacation is not difficult if one employs the proper procedures. There is no better time to start than now.
